An interesting book... [Aug. 8th, 2015|07:30 pm]

[mood |contemplativecontemplative]

A little pause from my trip reports to tell you about an interesting booklet that I found in a cute book shop where Barbara brought me during my stay in Brescia.
The title is "Three Men make a Tiger", and it's a really fun and enlightening travel into Chinese culture through the analysis of its language.
The author is an Italian woman who worked as an interpreter for an Italian firm in China and her contribution to the issue is really original, as it considers the whole deal from a peculiar point of view.
In modern times, Chinese people and their culture is usually ignored, considered cheap, tacky or too flamboyant, expecially when it comes to its recent contribution to marketing: back in the days, China was famous for its marvellous pottery and paintings, now "Made in China" is the trademark for crappy shit.
And those of us who enjoy Japanese culture are those who came really easily to consider that whole country and its citizens as "crappy shit": Japanese people are more elegant, more beautiful, more civilized. It's really important to know everything about them, even when you realize yourself that whatever the Japanese guys do is pretty much a softened version of something that people in China did 2000 years earlier...

..."Three Men make a Tiger" doesn't mean something along the lines of "There's Strenght in Numbers", but it's a motto against gossiping, or to consider rumors as the truth.

Summer Anime Season! [Jul. 7th, 2015|03:23 pm]

[mood |hothot]

--How is your summer going? Here over Europe we're facing one of those terrible heatstrokes from Africa... This year, though, it looks like it's the Northern countries who are dealing with the worst temperatures, but here in Italy, or at least, here in Rome and its suburbs, your Dae is tortured by humidity, feeling as if she's breathing straight from a hair dryer T^T
I look forward to the upcoming storms, even if it means getting flooded like usual. At least one can breath during a downpour!!

Little comfort comes from the anime season.
Summer anime seasons tend to be quite pitiful, and this year is no exception, so this is the situation of my current watching list:
Out of the various series that I took into consideration, only two were spared from my insults, Ranpo Kitan and Aoharu x Kikanjuu. I hope that Ranpo won't disappoint me like "UN-GO", another series inspired by the works of a popular Japanese writer-- But from the first episodes, despite some main characters that I can barely stomach (read: Kobayashi), I felt as if I'll probably see something that will remind me of the awesomeness of "Mouryo no Hako"... As for Aoharu, at first it looked like some silly shonen-ai series, but when I realized that Tsubasa was actually a girl and that she's pretty awesome, I got intrigued XD The theme of the series is soft-air and survival games, it may be interesting, so I decided to give it a try! The first episode was quite fun!
A little note on my "leftovers" from the previous season: Ore Monogatari!! is probably my favourite series of the lot XD I wasn't expecting it to be so fun and entertaining! And please note the second chance that I'm giving to Gundam Seed: I dropped it after 12 episodes at first, but now a group of fans are *dubbing* it in Italian, so I decided to rewatch it-- The releases are quite slow (for obvious reasons!), so I have the time to "digest" them XD We'll see what happens--

Well, see you when the temperatures will get back to normal! It's just a bother to stay in front of the PC, now D'x !

Ready to eat all the Expo Limited Edition shit :D !! [Jun. 4th, 2015|03:13 pm]

The Expo brought another excuse for the release of random limited edition stuff to eat.
Here are the first experiments, that your Dae tried out for you <3

The first was the beer flavoured with ingredients typical of certain Italian regions by Moretti.
Out of the four choices I picked the Siciliana, flavored with orange blossoms ("Zagara"), and the Friulana, flavoured with Reinette apple ("Renetta").

If there's something that I can't stand is flavoured beer, so I picked what looked like the more incospicious flavours... Fortunately, though, the "alien flavours" are quite vague if not non-existant compared to the beer's, and the most that you notice is a peculiar note in their fragrance if smelled with attention.
It should have felt a bit like a fraud, but I was quite glad that my beer didn't taste like apple x'DDD
--Next time I'll try the Piemontese, flavoured with cranberries and rice!

The second new shit was a set of hamburgers by McDonald's!
Out of the two choices, I picked the Veggie, that sounded like something crazy XD The special edition burger is said to take inspiration from Indian cuisine (I wonder how, maybe just because Indian cooking is one with a strong Vegetarian tradition?) with an abuse of Italian flavours: so here's a "red pesto" sauce (I tasted some red peppers in there-- Yum...) and smoked scamorza cheese.
Guys, I devoured this stuff in a second ._. It was very good (for McDonald's standard, of course!) ;_; And when I went there again to try the Angus burger, I just gave up and took another Veggie ToT;
--These burgers will be available only 'til June 9... I'm waiting to see what will come next :DD

The Opening of the Expo :D [May. 1st, 2015|11:53 am]

[mood |anxiousanxious]

Awwww, yesterday night I've been up to see the Opening Ceremony of the Expo 2015 :D
It's been a rollercoaster, but I'm glad that in the end we managed to finish everything per time T^T/
In a few minutes the Expo will start officially, I hope that the idiots of the so-called "antagonist movements" will be adequately abused by the police (expecially those coming from Germany and France) D: !

Anyway, as I told you I watched the whole thing on TV, 'cause I'm really excited and curious about it, and assuming that I won't manage to visit 'cause work will kill me, at least I wanted to check the thing on TV XD
I must say that I liked the design of the stage mirroring the look of the Duomo!

Paolo Bonolis was the anchorman! I love this guy-- But every now and then his jokes looked a bit out of place XD Lots of LOL when he tried to read the welcoming message in the various languages XD
--Poor Antonella Clerici is doomed to be associated with food for ever x'DDD

The special guests were Andrea Boccelli and the greatest Lang Lang! I really enjoyed their shows--

Boccelli sounded a bit weird during his first intervention D: I hope that he's not planning to kill himself ò_o;

Of course the main feature of the show was the lightening-up (?) of the "Tree of Life"... Very cool concept and design :D

I also liked how the colours of the stage matched those of the Tree! How cute!

All in all I think that it was quite a decent opening ceremony... What about you? Any of you guys followed it on TV..?

Cosplay Developments! Kycilia Mk II! [Apr. 15th, 2015|08:03 pm]

[mood |awakeawake]

So, as you may imagine, the past weekend I attended Romics as usual-- I was supposed to have some strategic shopping and enjoy some events but NO, I just met with my GIC friends for some promotional cosplay of sort-- It's been fun, as we got to meet lots of new Gundam fans and take idiotic pictures, but I missed my otaku activities T^T Yeah, cosplaying can be quite a bother-- But as it's the main feature of my con attendance, I'll just bother you about how I fixed my "old" costume into a fancier one!
As you know, Kycilia Zabi is my favourite female character of the series, if possible, my favourite female character of the whole saga, all the AU, spin-offs and alternative timelines involved--Collapse )
